Cultivate flair for music and dance in youngsters, says Banwarilal Purohit
Chennai: Governor Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated the December Art Festival-2017 at the Brahma Gana Sabha here on Sunday and conferred the Padhmam titles upon eminent artists on the occasion.
While ‘Gaana Padhmam’ title was conferred upon T. V. Gopalakrishnan, M. Chandrasekar received the “Vaadhya Padhmam” Mrs. Nandini Ramani received “Naatya Padhmam” and “Naataka Padhmam” was given to B. M. Purushothaman at a glittering function here.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Purohit said classical music has a captivating audience across the globe and the secret of its vitality lay in its growth without losing its purity and pristine form. He called upon efforts to “cultivate in the younger generation a flair for music and dance.”
“Everyone should be brought closer to this wealth of beauty of movement and sound. Zonal cultural centres, Art foundations and Sabhas should act as a catalyst in creating a bridge between tradition and modernity. We need to preserve the purity of our arts as well as welcome new ideas and new combinations,” he stressed.
He congratulated Dr T. V. Gopalakrishnan, Dr M. Chandrasekaran, Mrs. Nandini Ramani and B.M. Purushothaman for their distinguished contribution in their chosen field.
