Work on four-lane NH 206 begins

Presently, the NH widening work has been taken up to ease vehicular density and for smooth traffic movement from Shivamogga to Bengaluru.

Shivamogga: The existing two-lane NH 206 from Shivamogga to Tumakuru will be widened to four-lane with the Centre giving approval for widening of the NH and widening work beginning at Mallasandra near Tumakuru a week ago.

Presently, the NH widening work has been taken up to ease vehicular density and for smooth traffic movement from Shivamogga to Bengaluru. The widening work on 215 km NH from Mallasandra in Tumakuru to Srirampura near Shivamogga, will cover taluks such as Gubbi, Arasikere, Kadur, Bhadravathi and Shivamogga. The NH will bypass villages and towns en route to link Shivamogga and Tumakuru.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials told Deccan Chronicle that the project has been divided into four packages1,2,3 and 4 and of which work under packages 1 and 2 has begun and packages 3 and 4 will begin soon. Under package 1 of the four-laning project, work has started from Tumakuru to Banavara in Arasikere. On a railway line cutting through the NH near Kadur, NHAI officials said a railway over bridge will be constructed.
