Thiruvananthapuram: JD(S) min shuns talks with rivals
Thiruvananthapuram: JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda's move to resolve the current crisis in the state unit of the party has failed with prominent leaders refusing to participate in the talks.
Gowda had scheduled a meeting between state president K Krishnankutty and water resources minister Mathew T Thomas in Bangalore on Saturday. However, Thomas and senior leader C.K. Nanu MLA expressed their inability to attend the meeting.
The Krishnankutty faction had demanded the removal of minister triggering the crisis in the party. Sources said Thomas had informed Gowda that he was not ready for any talks with Krishnankutty on the issue. Those backing him have accused the MLA of running a campaign against the minister.
Earlier Krishnankutty had informed Gowada that the meeting of office bearers had demanded the shifting of Thomas. With both sides not ready for any compromise, the party is clearly headed for a crisis in the state.
The JD(S) faction led by Krishnankutty had mounted pressure on the national leadership to change the minster at the office bearers meeting held on October 12.
The Krishnankutty camp had claimed that there was an agreement to change the minister after two and a half years. Despite the agreement Mathew T Thomas had declined to relinquish the post.
