Rs 97 crore fines collected from offenders

They detected illegal mining of sand at several reaches and inspected 67 quarries.

Rajahmundry: Vigilance and enforcement authorities have struck at many illegal activities including sand mining, sale of gutka packets, adulteration of tea powder and practicing medicine without having valid certificate. Several criminal cases have been booked under relevant sections and fines to the tune of around Rs 97.37 crores against a target of Rs 230 crore had been collected in the current fiscal in East Godavari.

Vigilance and enforcement SP Reddy Gangadhara Rao told newsmen here on Saturday that they had identified various establishments that owed Rs 232 crore to the state government in the form of fines for the year 2018-19 and served notices to departments to collect Rs 175 crore so far.

After raids on establishment illegally storing gutka packets in Rajahmundry and Tuni. They raided seven hospitals located in Rajahmundry, Dowleswaram and Rajanagaram and booked criminal cases against six doctors.

They detected illegal mining of sand at several reaches and inspected 67 quarries. They identified Rs seven crore revenue to be remitted to the state government by the offenders. They also booked cases of violations against anganwadi centres, fair price shops and for trading in adulterated tea powder, water plants, film theatres, hotels and establishing selling energy drinks and dairy products.

The SP said that they had sent reports to the state government recommending action on several establishments for violation of norms.
