Promotion list of HSS principals put on hold
Thiruvananthapuram: The state has kept the promotion list of higher secondary school principals in abeyance after the first round of promotions. Teachers on the promotion list complain that this has been done to help those who were omitted from the list following the orders of the high court.
These teachers had moved a review petition in the HC challenging the decision. As a result, promotions of nearly 15 eligible persons have not got the promotions for three months. This meant that these teachers would lose their grade and pay they are eligible for by the time they retire, sources said.
The promotions were made in the ratio of 2:1 with two higher secondary teachers and a high school headmaster getting promoted. The issue got complicated as a set of high school teachers moved the HC claiming some teachers who got promoted to headmasters were ineligible. Some of those who were found to be ineligible for promotions were subsequently included on the list, sources said.
These teachers who had moved the review petition were highly influential and had good contacts with pro-Left teachers unions. They have influenced the office of general education minister to ensure that the promotion list is kept in abeyance, they said.
