Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan slams attempts to divide cops

The Chief Minister exhorted the police not to be cowed down by such attacks.

Kannur: Indirectly responding to the BJP’s alleged charge against Inspector Gene-ral of Police (IGP) Manoj Abraham, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that anti-secularists were trying to divide the police force.
“They are trying to communally divide even the police force. Efficient officers are being cornered and attacked on the basis of their religion and caste. These attempts should be resisted,” he said while speaking at the passing out parade of Kerala Armed Police (KAP) at Mangattupar-ambu here on Saturday.

The Chief Minister exhorted the police not to be cowed down by such attacks.
“The religion and caste of police personnel is policing. Police’s role in maintaining law and order is appreciable. Some are dreaming to corner the police and attack them. Such venomous attempts should be opposed. Unity and discipline is the strength of our police force,” the Chief Minister said.

It was BJP state spokes-man B. Gopalakrishnan who had allegedly using abusive language against IG Manoj Abraham during a protest march held to the office of Ernak-ulam Range IGP in connection with the Saba-rimala women's entry issue few days back. Gopalakrishnan was later arrested and granted bail.
