Tipu Sultan was a secular ruler, pro-Kannadiga, says Siddaramaiah

The CM also said that his government has been reaching 98 per cent of people in society through its many Bhagya welfare schemes.

Ballari: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asserted that attempts are being made to distort history and disturb communal harmony in the state while inaugurating Hampi Utsav at the UNESCO world heritage site, Hampi on Friday,

The Vijayanagar rulers were secular and Muslim men were a force to reckon with in the kingdom, he said, adding, "King Sri Krishna Devaraya was so secular that he inducted Muslims into his army.”

“But serious attempts are now being made to misinterpret history. This is nothing but a betrayal of history itself", he said while referring to the Tipu Sultan controversy with the BJP opposing the celebration of Tipu Jayanti on November 10.

“Tipu was a secular ruler and a pro-Kannadiga and most important of all, he was against colonial rule. He was a democratic ruler who was supported by contemporary Hindu rulers like the Maratha Peshwas in his war against the British," he asserted.

The CM also said that his government has been reaching 98 per cent of people in society through its many Bhagya welfare schemes.
