Inter-state clearance for Kaleswaram irrigation project

Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao hailed the CWC approval, terming it as an important development.

Hyderabad: In a major boost to the TS government, the Central Water Commission on Friday accorded inter-state clearance for the Kaleshwaram irrigation project.

The government had entered into an MoU with the Maharashtra government last year for construction of the project after Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had redesigned erstwhile Pranahitha-Chevella project conceived by previous Congress government in 2007.

The TS government approached the CWC for clearance and secured approval, paving the way for faster completion of the project.

Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao hailed the CWC approval, terming it as an important development.

The project, aimed to irrigate over 18 lakh acres in 13 districts had got hydrology clearance a few days ago, regarding availability of water at Medigadda. The project aims to fill Sriram Sagar, Nizamsagar and Singur dams and stablise 18 lakh acres covered by these projects.

Maharashtra’s appro-val was necessitated as the some portion of land on which the Medigadda, Tammidihatti and Chan-aka-Korate barrages are planned as part of Kaleshwaram project fall in that state.
