GHMC seizes ready-mix concrete plant

Additionally, such a concrete plant may not be established within a residential zone.

Hyderabad: Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) seized a ready-mix concrete plant in Gopanpally for conducting illegal operations. The plant was found to be supplying low-quality ready-mix concrete to contractors and private builders. Dust was being used, instead of sand, in the concrete mix, thus rendering it weak. The GHMC carried out the seizure after receiving a number of complaints from the residents of NTR Nagar — Survey No. 130 — regarding the air pollution and road damage being caused by Rock Ready Infra Private Limited’s plant.

Assistant city planner K. Madhava Renuka Hari said, “The owner manufactures about five trucks of concrete per hour and supplies it to private builders. The owner does not have a license from the GHMC. Nor does he have a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Pollution Control Board. The road adjacent to the one-acre plant is entirely damaged; even two-wheelers are unable to pass through it.”

According to the GHMC rulebook, all ready-mix plants must have a license from the GHMC and a NOC from the Pollution Control Board for carrying out operations legally.

Additionally, such a concrete plant may not be established within a residential zone. Another illegal plant has been identified at Malkam Cheruvu in Raidurgam.
