Water level falls 72 per cent in 91 reservoirs across country
New Delhi: Water level in 91 major reservoirs in the country has decreased to 72 per cent of their total capacity from 73 per cent last week, the government said on Friday.
According to Union Water Resources Ministry, 113.034 billion cubic metre (BCM) of water was available in these reservoirs till November 3.
The stock is 130 per cent of the storage reported during the corresponding period last year, while it is 99 per cent of the decadal average, the Ministry said in a statement.
Last week, the stock available in these reservoirs was 115.457 BCM. The total capacity of the reservoirs is 157.799 BCM.
The states which have recorded less storage vis-a-vis the corresponding period last year are Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, while the water levels in reservoirs in Uttarakhand are equivalent to those reported last year.
Punjab, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka have reported better stock compared to last year, the statement said.
