Doctors plan stir on National Medical Commission Bill

The major concern of IMA is that the NMC will have non-elected members nominated by the government.

Hyderabad: The Indian Medical Association has planned a nationwide strike against the proposed National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill which seeks to replace the Medical Council of India, on November 16.

The major concern of IMA is that the NMC will have non-elected members nominated by the government. The association is of the view that IMC Act 1956 should be suitably amended to retain and strengthen its self-regulatory role by minimising interference from government and lobby groups.

Dr Narsing Reddy, IMA-TS president said, “We will black badges and hold a protest rally. The government has failed to look into our demands of prevention of assault on doctors and health institutions, capping of compensation, amendment to the Clinical Establishment Act and introduction of the Anti-Quackery Bill.”
