Hyderabad: Delay in chalking out an electric vehicle policy has been cited as the prime reason for not improving the last mile connectivity, claimed the special committee members. Once the policy is finalised, the nodal agencies would rope in private players for providing e-vehicles which would connect Metro with nearest public transport. The committee members said that the private players are in the beeline to take up the project.
In order to strengthen the last mile connectivity from metro stations, it would deploy e-vehicles which would connect nearest bus station, MMTS station and means of public transport, said HMRL MD N.V.S. Reddy. He said that once the electric vehicle policy is unveiled, the HMRL would rope in more than 200 e-vehicles at all Metro station to facilitate commuters in the catchment area. He also said that HMRL cannot eliminate traffic congestion, but can definitely help contain it. The Metro is not a solution to our ever-growing traffic problems. Mr Reddy opined if city has strong last-mile connectivity with ample sidewalks and feeder services it would end traffic woes permanently.
Mr Reddy further said HMRL would rope in private players to e-vehicles in the city have been making beelines to office to bag the project. He said that the project will be taken up in public private patnership mode.
