Chennai: Sholinganallur assembly constituency in Kancheepuram district continues to be the largest constituency with over three lakh women voters. According to the draft rolls released here by the district election officials here on Tuesday, Kilvelur assembly constituency in Nagapattinam district has the lowest electorate in the state with 1.68 lakh electors, including eighty five thousand women voters.
According to chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni, the total electorate in Tamil Nadu is 5.95 crore with women voters outnumbering men (male voters are 2.95 crore, women voters are 3 crore and 5242 are third gender voters). During the continuous updation period between January 2017 and October 2, as many as 5.47 lakh inclusions were made. On account of death, shifting and duplicate entries, 2.31 lakh deletions were made after following due procedures laid down by the Election Commission of India, the CEO said in a statement.
In Chennai, corporation commissioner D. Karthikeyan who released the draft voters roll at Ripon Buildings said that Chennai with 16 assembly constituencies will have 40.73 lakh voters including 20.59 lakh women voters. Harbour will be the smallest constituency in Chennai with 1.89 lakh voters. Chennai will have 3,768 polling booths. During the recent revision, about 32,000 new voters have been added to the draft voters roll and 16,000 voters removed from the list due to death and shifting of residence, the commissioner said.
The relevant details of the electoral roll will be read in the grama sabhas. The electoral rolls will also be available at local bodies and shared in residents’ welfare association meetings scheduled on October 7, the CEO said. A similar meeting will also be held on October 21 for verification of names. Persons completing 18 years of age on January 1, 2018 and those who are not included in the electoral rolls can apply for inclusion. Except for those seeking registration for the first time (applicants in age group 18-25), all others must furnish their old address and EPIC number. Applicants should compulsorily fill the previous address in declarations and form 6, Lakhoni noted.
According to election officials, the draft rolls have been published on 03.10.2017 in all districts in the designated locations (mostly polling station locations which are school buildings). The rolls are hosted on the website:elections.tn.gov.in Copies of the rolls will be handed over to recognized political parties by the district election officers.
