Jayakumar justifies sedition case on TTV Dhinakaran

Claiming that he had been criticising the government for so long, he asked if this made him worthy of being booked for sedition.

CHENNAI: Fisheries minister D. Jayakumar justified the sedition case booked against TTV Dhinakaran and his supporters and said the sidelined leader had stooped down to make derogatory comments on the Chief Minister and ministers and this was of inferior quality and “totally unacceptable.”

“One can criticise the government in a democracy but it is totally unacceptable in a democratic set up for one to pass derogatory remarks against the Chief Minister or Ministers,” Mr Jayakumar said on Tuesday and added that Dhinakaran exceeded his brief and indulged in making inferior remarks.

' Ready to face sedition charges': A day after TTV Dhinakaran was booked under sedition charges for slamming state and Central governments over Neet, DMK working president M. K. Stalin on Tuesday claimed that he was prepared to face the consequences if he were to be booked under sedition charge.

Claiming that he had been criticising the government for so long, he asked if this made him worthy of being booked for sedition. He has been calling the Edappadi government a “minority government” and a government saved by “horse trading.” He would face the sedition charges, if the government resorted to book the case against him.

Stalin also said that cases should be booked against health minister Dr Vijayabhaskar, school education minister K. A. Sengottaiyan, co-operation minister Sellur K. Raju, based on the findings of a document of giving Rs. 89 crore for votes in R. K. Nagar constituency.
