Bengaluru: KJ George's tall order? Fix 9,000 potholes in a week
Bengaluru: Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George on Tuesday directed BBMP officials to fill up the 9000 odd potholes across the city and complete the works within a week, by employing "Python" machines.
Though Pythons are proved to be of inferior quality in filling potholes, the minister has insisted that the potholes be filled with these machines, said sources.
During a review of the progress of various infrastructure and traffic management projects across the city, Mr George directed officials to cover all the potholes within one week to ensure safety of motorists and smooth movement of vehicles.
Incessant rains that lashed the city over the last month has given some respite, allowing BBMP officials to take up pothole filling and asphalting works, approved under various schemes. Most of the projects have been tendered and work orders have been issued.
The much awaited white topping of several major roads in the city to ensure their longevity will be formally put into action soon. These major works are likely to be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on October 9.
Mr George reviewed various road works taken up in the city under the Nagarothana scheme and directed officials to complete the ongoing works at the earliest. Mr George also noted the delay in asphalting of a road near Kino Theatre and instructed officials to take up the work immediately.
Urban Development Additional Chief Secretary Mahendra Jain, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd Managing Director Pradeep Singh Karola, Bangalore Development Authority Commissioner Rakesh Singh, BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R. Hitendra and others were present at the meeting.
