Hyderabad: The state government is being forced to create new jobs in the reorganised districts after distribution of staff did not meet even half the requirements of the new entities.
The government had tried to minimise its financial burden on account of creation of the new districts from Dasara, by adjusting existing staff. The state pays out nearly Rs 2,000 crore in salaries every month, and did not want to add more staff to the rolls.
The collectors told the government that the existing staff was not sufficient to meet the needs in new districts. They pointed out that the crucial police and revenue departments were already facing severe shortage of staff in existing districts and they cannot be adjusted in new districts.
Additional chief secretary Shanthi Kumari met with HoDs recently to assess the staff requirement. Preliminary assessments indicated that 3,252 jobs need to be created in new districts. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to announce the new jobs, most of them in the revenue and police departments.
Officials suggested that staff could be promoted and posted to the new districts, and vacancies at junior levels should be filled with recruits. The Cabinet is expected to meet in the first week of October to approve the new jobs.
