Secretariat commissioned without canteen for staff in Velagapudi

The bidding will open on Tuesday and it will take minimum 10 days to provide minimum infrastructure for the employees.

Vijayawada: Though work commenced at the temporary secretariat in Velagapudi on Monday, many problems were faced by employees.

The government had given a deadline to employees to report at the temporary secretariat but the government itself failed in providing Andhra Pradesh Secretariat Employees Cooperative Society-canteen facility to the employees. The government assurance of providing state of the art kitchen (modular kitchen) for the employees before their arrival is still on papers. Though the government provided lunch to its employees on the first day, the employees have started thinking about tomorrow.

It is learnt that the government called tenders for canteen infrastructure on an emergency basis only recently. The bidding will open on Tuesday and it will take minimum 10 days to provide minimum infrastructure for the employees.

It has also come to light that there are quite a few problems like Internet connectivity and electricity. There is a requirement for some more cabins. It is also observed that construction work is pending. Andhra Pradesh Secretariat Employees’ Association president M. Murali Krishna said the canteen building is ready. “We requested for infrastructure earlier but that was neglected. There are no shops or restaurants in this area which is quite a problem for the employees for their lunch until the canteen is ready.”

He added that other problems would be settled automatically once work progresses.
