CBSE seeks fee info from schools

The Board has asked all schools to submit details of fee structure and facilities being provided to students.

Hyderabad: Parents from Hyderabad, who have been fighting the indiscriminate fee hike by various schools, are relieved with the CBSE deciding to look into the issue. The Board has asked all schools to submit details of fee structure and facilities being provided to students.

It asked schools to send information about the number of classrooms, smart and virtual classroom facilities (if any), science labs, sports and games facilities by October 31.

The Board’s decision assumes significance in view of widespread criticism in various states about indiscriminate fee hikes in CBSE schools in the last two years.

CBSE is taking steps to bring in changes for effective functioning of schools, and recently a school by-laws review committee was constituted for this purpose.
Mr Ashish Naredi from Hyderabad School Parents’ Association expressed hope that the CBSE would take concrete steps to address the issue.

Doubts are being raised whether CBSE has the authority to regulate school fees since it is an affiliation board. High Court senior advocate Kalpana Ekbote, who is arguing a case in the High Court on the exorbitant fees, said that CBSE had the authority to check whether schools were functioning only with a profit motive.
