AP staff starts work at temporary Secretariat

Around 2,000 employees reach Velagapudi from Hyderabad.

Vijayawada: The state administration work commenced at temporary Secretariat in Velagapudi on Monday with around 2,000 employees moved in from Hyderabad.

The temporary secretariat has five blocks in which one is the Assembly and another is the Chief Minister’s office. The remaining are administrative blocks of various departments.

The employees came to the secretariat with their family members and baggage. Many of them had small children on their shoulders while searching for their cabins. The government has provided accommodation for female staff along with their children at Rain Tree Park, a township taken on lease for six months.

An employee of the agriculture department, K Padma, with a child in her lap, told this correspondent, “It gives me immense pleasure to work in our own state especially in home town. Though there is inconvenience, we are very happy to be here.”

She added that her colleagues had come to the office a little earlier, arranged the necessary things and helped identify their cabins.

An employee from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development, A Latha said, “Though excited, I am a bit anxious in this new place having left family members in Hyderabad because of my children’s education.’’ She added, “I hope everything will be set within 2-3 days.”

The administrative work of every department started on the first day itself with the E-Filing system. Employees worked on statutory files that were long pending.

Few of the principal secretaries were seen at the secretariat on the first day and others are yet to report. Lunch was provided for all the employees on the first day by the government.
