Pinarayi Vijayan vows green rebuild

CM made it clear that there will be stringent monitoring and review by the government in all constructions.

Kochi: The state government will not compromise on the quality of construction and the focus is on rebuilding Kerala as a state which can withstand natural calamities in the wake of recurring floods, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

“It is a big responsibility of the government to rebuild the state sustainably, which was shattered in the floods and landslides,” said the chief minister after inaugurating the Kochi Metro’s Maharaja’s-Thykoodam line here on Tuesday.

“The maximum effort should be made to ensure the quality of constructions and the Palarivattom flyover fiasco should be a lesson to everyone associated with construction. In case of lapses, if any officials or others are found guilty, strict action will be taken against them. It is people’s money which is being used for infra projects and no one will be allowed to misuse it,” Mr Vijayan added.

He made it clear that there will be stringent monitoring and review by the government in all constructions.

“Plans are afoot to improve infrastructure facilities and public transport not only in Kochi, but across the state. The development of national highways, roads owned by various agencies and waterways is the top priority. The national waterways phase-I, will be realised by 2020,” he added.
