Hyderabad: Email ‘threat’ sends security at airport into intensive overdrive

According to a CISF official, the email was received by the customer support unit of the GMR group.

Hyderabad: An unidentified person sent an email on Tuesday stating that he wants to set off a bomb explosion at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday.

Immediately after receiving the email, the GMR staff, Central Industrial Security Force personnel and police carried out extensive searches at the airport and found nothing suspicious. The email was later dismissed as a hoax. A case was registered at the Cyberabad cyber crime police station to trace and arrest the email sender.

According to a CISF official, the email was received by the customer support unit of the GMR group.

“At about 14.31 pm, an email was received from sairamkaleru@live.com to by the RGIA customer support team of GMR group stating ‘I WANT TO BLAST BOMB IN AIRPORT TOMORROW’. The message was conveyed to all departments and security personnel, and later the mail was declared as non-specific,” said a CISF official.

A complaint was lodged for the investigation on the threat email and the Cyberabad cyber crime police are on the job to trace the sender, an offical said.

Shamshabad DCP N Prakash Reddy said: “The email was a hoax and efforts are on to trace the sender. All the necessary precautionary measures are being taken to avoid untoward incidents.”
