Tirupati: Zoo bats for butterflies

They have already started planting some plants that attract the butterflies.

Tirupati: Zoo authorities are in search of plants to attract butterflies. The Tirupati SV Zoo authorities have decided to take the butterfly park to the next level as it failed to attract the visitors. They have already started planting some plants that attract the butterflies.

As the life span of the butterflies is short, the authorities are trying to have a healthy plants that would not infect any butterfly. The lifespan of Some butterflies is only one week. If the plants are infected it may not survive for that one week time.

The infected plants may also effect the butterflies that have lifespan of one year. So the authorities are in a thorough check with the plants health to avoid infections for butterflies.

The Zoo authorities have started buying plants like Zinnia, Marie gold, Petunia, Sankupushpam, Latina Canara and Akalpa which attracts the butterflies more.

These plants are being bought from Chennai and Bangalore. The locally available plants like Hibiscus, Curry leaves, Jilledu, and Turai are being planted in the park.

Zoo curator Mr Srinivasa Reddy said, "we taking care while purchasing or getting plants. Butterflies are most sensitive creatures. Those should be treated with a different care. So we are testing each and every plant before planting it in the butterfly park." Vetarnary Doctor Mr Arun said, "The butterflies’ life span varies from a week to a year.”
