Hyderabad: The investigation into the kidney racket in which staffers of Continental Hospital are involved, is working to establish whether the kidney donors and recipients were related as required by law.
Continental Hospital has produced pictures that show donor and recipient as part of a family group, but the police is investigating whether the photographs were morphed. The allegation is that the passport picture of the donor of the kidney was inserted into the family picture of the recipient to show they are from the same family. The case pertains to kidney recipient Muhammed Akhtaruzzaman Bhuiyan, 66, a resident of Kashil in Basali of Bangladeshs' Tangail district, who was suffering from diabetic nephropathy,an end-stage renal disease.

A former medical director of Continental Hospital, Dr Praveen Kumar alleged that his signature was forged on the forward note prepared for the organ transplant of an international patient.

Based on his complaint, the Gachibowli police booked a case. The donor in the case was 33-year-old Mohammed Kamruzzaman Parmanik of Gaibandha in Bangladesh.
In the required Form-10, the donor stated that out of love, affection and attachment he is donating one of his kidneys to the recipient and has taken the decision without any pressure, inducements, influence or allurement, and the consequences of organ transplantation have been explained to him.
All the documentation was put before the Director of Medical Education Authori-sation Committee of the Telangana state government through the hospital ethics committee.
The donor produced a no-objection certificate from the Bangladesh High Commission, a police verification certificate of donor and recipient, a relationship certificate and photographs.
In another case, there were discrepancies in the certificates produced to support the case before the authorisation committee, particularly regarding dates.
For instance, in one of the death certificates the date of issue of certificate, date of death and date of registration are not matching.
