Kurnool may get High Court soon
Kurnool: When the separate Andhra movement started off in early 1950, the Coastal Andhra leaders urged Rayalaseema to pledge its support leaders to strengthen the issue of getting a separate state based on linguistic barriers.
But Rayalaseema leaders were not ready to cooperate with coastal leaders, as they had their own doubts regarding the development of their region.
On November 16 1937, the leaders of both regions reached an agreement in the house of Kashinathuni Nageshwara Rao, who was a well known businessman and media mogul. His house was named Sribagh.
Hence, this agreement came to be known as the Sribagh Agreement as it took place at his place. The pact envisages that whenever Andhra is formed, the capital city would be located in Rayalaseema region and that the High Court will be located in Coastal Andhra region. Since the capital region has been moved to Coastal region, there is a demand for setting up of a High Court.
