UP: Dalit couple attacked for refusing to work in fields

Members of Dalit community protested over the incident after which the police registered a complaint and are investigating the case.

Muzaffarnagar: Some land owners allegedly assaulted a Dalit couple for refusing to do manual labour in their sugarcane fields in Uttar Pradesh's Pipalhera village, police said.

Raju was beaten up by Inam Singh and three of his family members on Saturday when he refused to work in their sugarcane fields. His wife Mantesh was also beaten up and misbehaved with when she tried to rescue her husband, police said.

Meanwhile, members of Dalit community gheraoed Khatoli police station and protested over the incident.

A complaint has been filed and police are investigating the case.

In another incident, two Dalit men Rajbir and Vipin Kumar from Sherpur village under Purkazi police station in the district were injured after they were attacked allegedly by people belonging to another caste.

A complaint has been filed with the police after irate people protested over the incident.

In a third case, a Dalit youth Amerjit was allegedly beaten up over some dispute with a woman at Faloda village in the district on Saturday, police said.
