Heavy rains add to commuters’ woes on Secunderabad-RTC stretch

The authorities have been dumping debris, crushed stones or soil to fill the potholes, says a regular commuter.

Hyderabad: The stretch from Secunderabad to RTC Crossroads has become a nightmare for commuters. The rain has worsened the condition of the road which has been ignored by the GHMC.

The corporation says the road from Secunderabad to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station has been handed over to Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited after it began construction, and it has to maintain the stretch.

The Secunderabad-RTC Crossroad stretch has seen patchwork done from time to time. After the rain damaged the road, HMRL staff began filling the potholes with mud.

The mud has now formed into lumps, making driving dangerous. Mr Mallam Ven-katesh, a regular commuter, said that due to official apathy the condition of the road had deteriorated over the last two years. The authorities have been dumping debris, crushed stones or soil to fill the potholes. He said the continuous rain over the past few days has made the road slippery.

Mr K. Sridhar, another motorist, said, “The road damage is very severe opposite Sapt-agiri theatre, RTC crossroads and Chikk-adpally. The wide road has become extremely narrow and dust is causing further inconvenience,” he said.

Sewerage leakage at Golconda crossroads had made things difficult for commuters. Mr Sridhar said the road was not being relaid.

Asked about this, HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy said the issue had come to his notice and the agency had fixed the road at several stretches. Mr Reddy said the road was damaged due to sewerage leaks. He said the HMRL had concrete-topped a few stretches.
