Cloud-seeding in Cauvery basin soon: BS Yediyurappa

Expressing concern over poor rainfall, Yediyurappa said many districts in the state faced a severe shortage of drinking water.

Bengaluru: With monsoon playing truant, the State government has decided to launch cloud-seeding in the catchment areas of the KRS reservoir and the Malnad region.

Inaugurating the BJP's membership campaign here on Saturday, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said that earlier cloud-seeding was successful in the state and hence, his government had decided to go for cloud-seeding.

Expressing concern over poor rainfall, Yediyurappa said many districts in the state faced a severe shortage of drinking water.

“We have adequate funds for the cloud-seeding operation,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that though the state's financial position was not good, he had directed the officials to transfer Rs 4,000 in two installments directly to farmers' bank accounts under the Prime Minister's Kisan Samman Yojana. The farmers would get this benefit within 20 days.

Yediyurappa said the BJP membership drive would continue across the state till August 11.

The BJP’s target was to enroll 50 lakh members this time, he said. The had enrolled 70 lakh members across the state, second highest in the Country, last time, he added.
