Campaign ends for Vellore Lok Sabha poll
Chennai: The high voltage poll campaign for the Vellore Lok Sabha constituency that revolved on a plethora of issues including law and order, corruption and governance besides rancorous attacks traded by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and DMK chief M. K. Stalin, which had hogged the attention, came to a close on Saturday evening.
Though a total of 28 candidates including three women are in the fray, the main fight is between the ruling AIADMK’s ally New Justice Party’s A.C. Shanmugam and DMK’s Kathir Anand who is son of DMK treasurer Duraimurugan.
Actor-director Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NMK) candidate S. Deepalakshmi is also in the fray. Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) decided to stay away from the polls. T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s AMMK too backed out from the current polls.
The election to Vellore Lok Sabha seat was originally scheduled for April 18, but was postponed by the Election Commission following the seizure of over `10 crore unaccounted cash from DMK leaders in Vellore district.
This also became the central plank for AIADMK’s campaign targeting the DMK. Both the Dravidian majors had retained the candidates who were nominated for the April polls.
