Drunk school van driver rams into BMTC bus, students safe

The driver, Manju alias Manjunath, sustained fractures in his leg and is being treated at a private hospital.

Bengaluru: A drunk school bus driver sustained injuries, while 20 students had a lucky escape after the school bus he was driving crashed into a BMTC bus from behind at Yelahanka on Friday morning.

The driver, Manju alias Manjunath, sustained fractures in his leg and is being treated at a private hospital. The bus belonged to a private school in Avalahalli near Yelahanka.

The accident took place around 8 am when the bus was heading towards the school. Near the Seshadripuram college junction, a BMTC bus came to a sudden halt in the middle of the road, and Manju crashed the vehicle into the BMTC bus from behind. Another vehicle from the school was sent to the accident spot and the students were taken to school.

The police said that the medical test proved the presence of alcohol in his blood and it could be due to his late night drinking or consumption of alcohol before coming to duty.

A senior officer said that they will arrest the driver soon after he gets discharged from the hospital.
