Puducherry seeks Tamil Nadu land to expand airport runway

Around 150 acres of land were required to expand the runway to accommodate bigger aircraft.

Puducherry: The territorial administration is taking all steps to expand the runway of Puducherry airport and land has been sought from neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu for the runway expansion, said Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy.

"Flight services from the airport will resume from August 16 with SpiceJet operating Puducherry Hyderabad flight. Services to other destinations including Banglore, Kochi, Tirupathi and Coimbatore will commence soon, said the Chief Minister.

He was talking to reporters at the Chennai airport after his Delhi visit.

"The government is taking all steps for the airport expansion of the runway. The administration is working out the modalities of land acquisition from Tamil Nadu for expanding the runway so as to operate wide-bodied aircraft from here", he added

The Chief Minister said that he met Union health minister J.P .Nadda over seeking exemption for the UT from National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (Neet).

At the same time, the Chief Minister has called for a meeting of all legislators here on Friday to discuss the issue of Neet and medical admission.
