Justice N. Kirubaaran gave the directive and posted to August 10, further hearing of the case.

Chennai: Madras high court has directed the state government to give details relating to the number of posts which would be vacant to be filled from the total 4 lakh students who will be awarded degrees by the Teachers Training Institutes in the state by the end of 2018. It also wanted to know how long it would take to the govenment to give employment to all of them. Justice N. Kirubaaran gave the directive and posted to August 10, further hearing of the case.

Originally, SVI College of Education in Tiruchy filed a petition, challenging the showcause notice issued by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), in and by which the NCTE had stated that the petitioner institution cannot ask to increase the intake of students in B.Ed as well as M.Ed courses. When the petition came up for hearing on March 22, the judge had suo motu impleaded the state government, Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University (TNTEU) and the Director of Employment and Training as Respondents in the case and posed 10 queries to be answered by them. When the case came up for hearing on Thursday, the judge while quashing the show cause notice issued by NCTE, directed it to consider the petitioner’s single application for two cases as per the instruction issued by it.

The judge said though this court raised 10 queries to be answered by the authorities regarding the Teacher Training Institutes and the number of graduates available in TN and the employment opportunities in TN, so far they have not answered. However, it was submitted in the counter affidavit filed by TNTEU that by the end of 2018, the number of students who would be awarded degree by the Teacher Training Institutes will be approximately 4 lakh. As 4 lakh students were likely to be graduated from TTI the court would like to know how long it will take for the state government to provide employment.
