Delay hits aspirants of super speciality courses

The ongoing Supreme Court cases are also causing the delay. The next hearing is slated for September 2017.

Hyderabad: Inordinate delay has hit the super speciality (SS) admission process for the PG medical courses.

Last year, the admissions were was over by July 31 and the academic sessions began by August 1. However, this year even counselling has not yet been completed.

Oruganta Raghupathi, an aspirant who wants to pursue the super-speciality course in endocrinology, said, “We appeared for Neet in June. Still there is no sign of counselling. This has caused confusion among the aspirants. They do know whether to go for counselling for the senior residents course or to wait for the SS counselling to start.”

Sriram Reddy, a super speciality aspirant who opted for neurology, said, “For the first time, admissions for super speciality courses were conducted through Neet. Due to which there is a delay in the counselling process. The ongoing Supreme Court cases are also causing the delay. The next hearing is slated for September 2017.”

Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences had written a letter to the National Board of Education (NBE) on July 22, asking for guidelines to start the admissions. Karunakar Reddy, Vice Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, said, “I had written to the National Board of Education, seeking guidelines and the rank list of aspirants of super-speciality courses.

“I was informed on Wednesday that only the Central government can conduct the counselling for the super-speciality seats. We have replied to them, stating the special provisions granted to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under Article 371-D of the Constitution and the Presidential Order. We are waiting for their reply.”
