Bengaluru: 105 Indira canteens to be ready next week
Bengaluru: Despite many setbacks, 78 Indira canteens are ready and construction has begun for 27 more, which will be ready by next week. Special Commissioner Manoj Rajan told Deccan Chronicle, “The construction of 105th canteen began on Thursday. Seventy eight canteens are ready to be opened. Once we identify the location, only eight days are needed to build them.”
We are confident of opening 125 canteens by Independence Day and the rest by Gandhi Jayanthi this year, Rajan assured. Catering service providers have already begun recruiting staff, Rajan said.
Assurance to HC
The BBMP on Thursday assured the High Court that Indira canteens will not be constructed on playgrounds and parks. The High Court then disposed the petition.
In another case related to Indira canteen the court stayed the state government’s order suspending Bengaluru South Tahsildar Shivakumar S.M, till further orders. He was suspended for allegedly obstructing construction of an Indira canteen near PES college.
