New Delhi: Two years on, the unsolved mystery of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife, Sunanda Pushkar, has led Delhi police team to get in touch with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the US.
51-year-old Sunanda was found dead in her suite at a luxury hotel in New Delhi in January 2014 under mysterious circumstances. During investigation, police found out that she had engaged in a Twitter spat with a Pakistani journalist few days before her death.
According to an NDTV report, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is investigating Sunanda's death, has approached Washington-based FBI to solve the mystery and ascertain the cause of her death.
Initially, Sunanda's sudden demise was considered as suicide. However, after an year, police registered an FIR against unknown persons and claimed that she had been poisoned.
During investigation, Sunanda's viscera samples were sent to AIIMS hospital in Delhi. It was only after they failed to detect any poisonous substance, the samples were handed over to the FBI in Washington.
In their initial report, FBI ruled out the possibility of death by poisoning with the help of a radioactive substance.
Although police officials have not named any suspects in their FIR, yet, Sunanda's husband, Tharoor had been questioned several times.
This is the second time police team has approached FBI to investigate the murder.
