Drunk Driver Kills Woman, Daughter in Hyderabad

Accused left their damaged car at the spot and headed to a farm house in Moinabad to celebrate his birthday party in another car

Hyderabad: A morning walk turned out to be the last walk for a mother and her daughter as they were fatally hit by a speeding car at Hydershakote Suncity in Narsingi in the early hours of Tuesday.

Nemili Anuradha, 46, and her daughter M Mamata (24) got up as usual and went for their morning walk. Along the way, a red car at high speed lost control and hit them from the rear side.

In the impact, both Mamata and Anuradha were thrown 12 feet. Mamata’s head hit an electric pole while Anuradha suffered deep internal injuries and died on the spot, the Narsingi police said.

Their neighbour, M. Malvika, 36, who was walking along with them, suffered critical injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. Another injured, Alam Khan, 64, a resident of PNT Colony, who was passing by, also suffered critical injuries and was admitted to the Apollo hospitals.

“The incident occurred at 6.10 am. Anuradha and Mamta got out of their house for the routine walk at 6 am. Malvika joined them. The three came out of house lane in Laxminagar, Suncity, and headed towards a 40-feet wide road that connects the Hydershakote road. The road has a large footpath with the military’s open land on the left side. The victims were about to step on to the footpath when the vehicle hit them,” police said.

Mamata, the only daughter of Anuradha and Nemeli Srinivas had recently completed her BTech from the Malla Reddy College and secured a job within an MNC. Srinivas works as a driver.

Police said Mohammed Baddruddin (19) was driving the car and approached a curve at high speed. He applied brake hard and the vehicle skidded on the sand on the road for over 22 metres before hitting the victims and ramming into a pole.

Baddruddin and his friends M. Ganesh, Mohammed Ibrahim and Mohammed Faisan, left their damaged car at the spot and headed to a farm house in Moinabad to celebrate his birthday party in another car, said Shiva Kumar, Narsingi inspector.

“We traced the accused through their car’s registration number (AP09 BJ 2588) that was registered on Baddruddin’s friend Rehman’s name, and arrested the accused while they were at the farm house in Moinabad. They were busy preparing for the birthday celebrations,” the inspector said.

Baddruddin is a resident of Shantinagar, Masab Tank, and a BBA first year student of Avinash College. He, along with his college mates Ganesh, Faisan and Ibrahim started at 5.30 am towards Moinabad.

Police caught them after a scrutiny of the CCTV footage from a camera in front of an Army officer’s house, close to where the incident occurred. Police recovered a knife to cut cakes from a blue bag that the accused had forgotten in their car.

A case under section 304 (2) and 337 of IPC (causing death of any person by rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide) has been registered against the accused and their vehicle has been seized.
