Working on final report: CMWSSB

The under ground Sewage Scheme was being designed for 30 years.

Chennai: The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has informed the Madras high court that now, the preparation of final report and draft bid document relating to providing under ground sewage scheme in Madipakkam is under progress by the consultant and the same will be submitted on or before August 31, 2019.

R.Jayaratchagan, Superintending Engineer, CMWSSB stated this in his report filed through G.Janakiraman, counsel for CMWSSB, before a division bench comprising Justices S.Manikumar and Subramonium Prasad when the PIL filed by P.Ayyamperumal of Madipakkam came up for hearing on Wednesday.

In his PIL, Ayyamperumal sought a direction to the authorities to complete the preparation of Detailed Project Report for providing underground sewage scheme to Madipakkam area and undertake and complete the drainage work on time bound manner.

In his report, Jayaratchagan submitted of Detailed Project Report for providing Under Ground Sewage Scheme in Madipakkam and 13 added areas of Chennai City was awarded on October 24, 2016 to M/s SAI Consulting Engineers Pvt Ltd at a total cost of Rs 1.49 crore. Madipakkam area covers 3.40 Sq.Km and present population was 48710 numbers.

The under ground Sewage Scheme was being designed for 30 years. The components of the Project were laying of gravity sewer line for a length of about 98.84 km, construction of 6 nos of Sewage Pumping Station at Dumping Yard, Rajalakshmi Nagar, Mylai Balaji Nagar, Senthil Nagar and road side Lift Station at Madipakkam lake view road and Karpagambal Nagar, Laying of Pumping Main from various Pumping station to Sewage Treatment Plant for a length of about 8.80 km and providing House Service Connection of 9750 nos, he added.

He said now, the preparation of final report and draft bid document was under progress by the consultant and the same will be submitted on or before August 31, 2019. Final bid document to be submitted within 30 days after approval of final report and draft bid document. Subsequently, administrative and technical sanction will be accorded. Further, tender settling process will be completed in 6 months. Work will be executed and will be completed in 36 months from the date of award of contract. Outline proposal cost of the above scheme works out to `160 crore, he added.

Directing the CMWSSB to file additional report setting out the steps taken by it, the bench posted to July 5, further hearing of the case.
