Thrissur: Row over new daily offering at Guruvayur

Pressure was also mounting on Mohandas after BJP, Congress and local CPM leaders turned against him over the issue.

Thrissur: Guruvayur Devaswom Managing Committee (GDMC) chairman K. B. Mohandas met chief tantri of Lord Sree Krishnan Temple on Wednesday to sort out issues between them in wake of allegations that the chairman and the GDMC was interfering in the matter related to the customs and rituals of the temple.

The tantri on Tuesday had shot off a letter to the temple administrator that he was not informed about the GDMC introduction of daily ‘Paranirakkal’ offering at the temple which was till now conducted only on special occasions.

Pressure was also mounting on Mohandas after BJP, Congress and local CPM leaders turned against him over the issue.

Sources close to GD said minister Kadakampally Surendran had contacted the chairman and that prompted his meeting with chief tantri - Chennas Narayanan Namboodirip- ad - at latter’s residence at Guruvayur. The meet went on for nearly an hour.

Chairman and S. V. Sesir, administrator of the temple, said the offering should have been started with the consent of tantri and soon after they came to know that he was not informed about it, an order was issued by the administrator to stop the daily offering which was introduced on Monday.

“I met tantri and discussed the current issue ...everything has been now sorted out,” Mohandas said. Functionary of the devotees’ organisation Prathikaravedi Venugopal Pazhur said tantri, who is a permanent member of GDMC, was not present in the meeting which took the decision on ‘Paranirakkal.’
