One to 2 kids molested every day in Kerala: Sheeba George

Most children are in a very unsafe condition, said Sheeba George.

Kochi: Sheeba George, Director, State Department for Women and Child Development, on Wednesday, said that one or two children are being molested every day in the state.

Inaugurating the second editionof All Kerala CSR Conclave organised by Kerala Management Association (KMC) in Kochi, she said that from the sixth month of birth, children are subjected to various forms of torture. "Most children are in a very unsafe condition. Although there are many rules and protocols for protecting children's rights, we are still in the dark about it," said Sheeba George. "Responsible parenting is a necessity of the times and corporates should come forward to spend more of social responsibility funds in this sector," she added.

Karuna Nath Segal, country operations head of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said there was a need to change the order of spending of social responsibility funds. He also noted that CSR funds play a vital role in maintaining a warm bond between the corporates and the community. Madhav Chandran, Governor of the Rotary International District 3201, who delivered the keynote address, called on the younger generation to be more value-oriented.

Shanti Pramod Mangat, Director, Avitis Super Specialty Hospitals, said Corporate Social Responsibility must changed to Complete Social Impact. KMA CSR awards were announced in different categories on the occasion. Former President Vivek Krishna Govind welcomed the gathering. Various sessions followed the inauguration. KMA distributed scholarships to 100 flood-affected students selected by the KMA manging committee on the occasion.
