Mayor Gangambike shocked at poor state of BBMP schools

The students complained to the mayor that they were not issued textbooks and there was a severe shortage of teaching staff.

BENGALURU: Bengaluru Mayor Gangambike, who carried out a surprise inspection of BBMP schools on Wednesday, was taken aback by the poor state of affairs. She was shocked that students had to sit in corridors for classes, study without textbooks and manage with very few teachers.

The students complained to the mayor that they were not issued textbooks and there was a severe shortage of teaching staff.

At the BBMP School in Mathikere, Ms Gangambike took the principal to task as she found that the students did not have textbooks and one teacher was handling two subjects as there was a shortage of teachers. At JP Park School, she saw students sitting in classrooms without light. When asked, the principal gave a lame excuse that the electrician had not come to repair the lights. The angry mayor gave an earful and asked the principal to take immediate action.

She directed the officials to take steps to improve the condition of schools and update her if they faced any issue so that suitable measures can be taken.
