Labourers say voted for PM Modi, amuse RV Deshpande

KALABURAGI: Revenue Minister and Congress leader R.V. Deshpande seemed amused when some women labourers employed under the MNREGA scheme near Yadgir town candidly told him that they voted for Narendra Modi in the recent Lok Sabha election.

Mr Deshpande was inspecting desiltation of a tank near Yadgir town when the workers complained to him that their wages were not adequate and wanted it to be enhanced by Rs 300 per day. Saying that this had to be done by the Centre, Mr Deshpande wondered if they knew what the word Centre meant? “You have no idea what the word Centre means. But you definitely know who Modi is. Tell me who did you vote for in the Lok Sabha election?” To this some of the workers promptly replied, “Modi.”

Earlier speaking at a review meeting here, Mr Deshpande expressed his unhappiness over the non-cooperative attitude of officials in implementing reforms being undertaken in the department. He said an online delivery system of revenue documents has been introduced to check corruption but the cooperation from the staff was not satisfactory.
