Rajahmundry: Deputy Chief Minister and minister for health Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas assured an inquiry by vigilance personnel to find out illegal constructions and encroachments in the housing colonies of the poor at Kothur, Madepalli and Komadavole villages in West Godavari.
The Deputy Chief Minister inspected the housing colonies on Wednesday and noticed collapsed houses and growth of weeds all around.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the foundation stone was laid by the then chief minister K. Rosaiah for development of the colonies some eight years ago and fumed at the previous Telugu Desam regime for failing to develop the colonies during its regime.
Mr Krishna Srinivas said that he had noticed some beneficiaries had failed to construct houses even after allotment of plots for varied reasons. Their plots were encroached and houses were built by others. In some cases, some people had occupied houses allotted to poor beneficiaries.
He said that he would take it to the notice of government to order a probe and evacuate the encroachers.
He said that even though 1,126 houses were to be built, not even 200 units were built so far as people were not coming forward to live in the colonies.
He directed the housing authorities to come up with proposals to develop infrastructure like roads, drains, drinking water and other amenities so that he could get funds and the amenities developed.
Referring to ground realities in the colonies where 170 beneficiaries failed to take up construction of houses while 200 laid foundation stones some eight years ago and took up no construction so far, he said that they would study the issue and decide whether new houses were to be allotted or find out whether the beneficiaries were ready to take up construction of houses.
