Landslide halts train in Sakleshpur, 500 hit

The landslide was noticed at around 2.45 pm between Yedakumari and Karadagavalli stations in the Western Ghats.

Hassan: Around 500 passengers on board a train from Mangaluru to Yeshvanthpur in Bengaluru had to return from Subramanya railway station to Mangaluru after a landslide hit train services on the route in Sakleshpur, Hassan on Tuesday.

The landslide was noticed at around 2.45 pm between Yedakumari and Karadagavalli stations in the Western Ghats. Stranded passengers were refunded their travel fare by South Western Railway and buses too were arranged by railway officials for the stranded passengers to enable them to resume their journey. Personnel have been engaged to clear the debris on the tracks and it might be late night before the staff clear the tracks, said Mr Yatish, Divisional Commercial Manager while speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday.

Mr Yatish added that no trains operate on the tracks on the Sakleshpur-Mangaluru route in the night. It may be recalled that landslides were reported on three occasions on the tracks in June following heavy rains in the Ghats.
