High altitude sickness claims Tamil Nadu man's life
Chennai: A retired headmaster has been reported dead out of 23 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu stranded in Nepal due to bad weather.
Ramachandran, 67, from Andipatti in Theni district was a retired headmaster who had embarked on Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimagewith his wife on June 18.
Sources said he developed breathing problem due to high altitude and died early Tuesday in Mansarovar.
Sources from the Indian Embassy said that his body was airlifted and taken to Kathmandu in Nepal after which it will be sent to his hometown. A statement was also released saying that Ramachandran was not part of the group stranded in Simikot.
The Tamil Nadu house in New Delhi has extended help to transport his body to Tamil Nadu. There is no information on his wife's whereabouts but his son-Venkatanarasimappa and his daughter are en route to Nepal to bring back the mortal remains.
