4 out of 10 Hyderabad cops corrupt: ACB

After them, the most corrupt departments are GHMC, medical and revenue wing.

Hyderabad: For every 10 complaints received by the Anti Corruption Bureau, four are against police officials accused of demanding a bribe to file charge sheets in favour of the accused, releasing seized property, or not arresting the accused.

It follows heavy demand for money to execute bail proceedings for the accused. Bribes are also offered to get bail for the accused.

After the city police, the most corrupt departments are the GHMC, medical and the revenue wing.

A typical example is of Humayun Nagar sub-inspector Ch. Srikanth, who was shielding the murderer of an ex-naval officer. The ACB caught him demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 in order to not harass the accused, Saud Amoodhi during his station custody.

Later Amoodhi was taken into police custody for a period of seven days by the sub inspector. The corrupt police officer demanded another Rs 50,000 not to harass him and to facilitate the bail proceedings.

In another case, sub-inspector Eroji of Chaitanyapuri police station was caught red-handed taking Rs 20,000 as bribe from an advocate, charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The bribe was demanded to file an early chargesheet and in favour of the complainant.

The ACB issued a notice to Chilkalguda detective sub-inspector (DSI) Ch. Venkatadri and Constable M. Rajesh following a complaint lodged against them for demanding a bribe for handing over a bike that was recovered after being stolen.

Sources told Deccan Chronicle that most complaints received by the ACB in connection with the police are of lower rank officers.
