TN CM announces improvement of 6,000 km rural roads
Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday announced that rural roads for a distance of about 6,000 km would be improved at an estimate of Rs 2,000 crore.
It would include 3,500 km of road from state government funds of Rs 800 crore and 2,659 km of road under the Prime Minister's road improvement scheme at an expense of Rs 1,250 crore.
Making a 110 statement in the Assembly, he said under the Prime Minister's rural roads improvement scheme, 2,659 km of road and 25 bridges would be improved at a cost of Rs 1,254 crore.
Besides toilets for 26.49 lakh houses would be built at an expense of Rs 3,178 crores under the Swachh Bharath scheme. He said a total of Rs 500 crore would be allocated for solid waste management in village panchayats with high population to distribute dustbins and tri-cycles to collect solid waste. He also said a total of Rs 7,000 crore would be given as loans for self help groups.
He also announced drainage scheme for areas in Vellore corporation, new areas added to Coimbatore, Tiruchy and Tirunelveli corporations. Besides, Adyar river estuary would be cleaned for a distance of 42 km at an expenditure of Rs 555 crore.
