Bank strike planned in August
Hyderabad: Bank employees’ associations under the leadership of the United Federation of Bank Unions (UFBU) announced here on last Thursday that bank employees would go on strike for a day in August and for two days in October or November. The UFBU also announced protest programmes from July 19 to September 15 demanding solutions to 17 major issues.
All India Bank Employees Association general secretary C.H. Venkatachalam said a meeting was organised on Thursday under the supervision of United Federation of Bank Unions chairman K.K. Nair which discussed the Charter of Demands submitted to the Indian Banks Association. He said the federation was asking the government not to privatise public sector banks. “We are also demanding to stop the mergers and consolidation of banks, write-offs, consider the wilful default of bank loans a criminal offence, implementation of the recommendations of the parliamentary committee on recovery of NPAs and 12 other demands,” he said.
The UBFU announced that it would observe a ‘Save Public Sector Banks Day' on July 19 followed by an all India bank strike on August 22.
