Ooty: The Tea Board of India zonal office in Coonoor has announced the average procurement price for green tea leaf (GTL) for the month of June 2019.
C.S. Hariprakash, deputy director (tea development) at the Tea Board of India, Zonal office, in a release stated that the district average price for GTL for the month of June-2019 has been fixed as Rs 15.43 per kg of GTL. It is based on the consolidated auction sale average of CTC teas from bought leaf tea factories (BLF) during May 2019.
All the bought leaf tea factories in Nilgiris are instructed to adhere to this average price for GTL while buying GTL from the farmers.
All the field officials of the Tea Board, South India, including development officers, factory advisory officers and assistant directors of tea development , shall ensure that no BLF’s in their respective jurisdiction pays lower than the average procurement price for GTL fixed for the month of June 2019, it is stated.
Tea prices are very sensitive for small growers in particular in Nilgiris.
