Hyderabad: Cabbie arrested for harrasing woman at RGIA

After getting down at the airport, she asked them to wait for five minutes while she borrowed the money for the fare from a friend.

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old cab driver and his elder brother who stole a mobile phone and handbag of a woman working at RGI Airport were arrested by RGI Airport police on Monday.

According to RGIA police, on May 24, a woman identified as Varshitha Reddy, lodged a complaint in the early hours that her mobile phone and handbag were snatched away by a cab driver and his aide, after dropping her at the airport.

Ms Reddy, a resident of Mehdipatnam, works at the airport. On the day of the incident, she took a private cab to go to work. There was another person present in the cab who was in a drunken condition. After getting down at the airport, she asked them to wait for five minutes while she borrowed the money for the fare from a friend.

But, the cab driver and his drunken aide began arguing with her, and snatched away her mobile and handbag containing her employee ID card, ATM cards and cheques. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under sections 354 and 384 of IPC by the RGIA police. The police said that based on the technical clues, including CCTV footage, the cab was identified (TS 15 UC 9730). The driver of the cab, Shubham Kumar Sharma (26) and his elder brother Sumith Kumar Sharma (30), were apprehended and remanded to judicial custody, said the police.
