Hyderabad: 1 dead from blast in explosives company

the Blast took place when the labourer went inside the room to get a box of MHN.

Hyderabad: A labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed in a massive explosion at Regenesis Industries in Bommalaramaram in Yadadri district on Monday. The body of the deceased worker, Gol Kashyap, was thrown 100 feet due to the impact of the explosion, said the police.

Gol Kashya, 21, a native of Bastar district in Chhattisgarh migrated to Telangana state about two months ago. He began working for Regenesis Industries, an explosives manufacturing company located in Bommalaramaram, about one-and-a-half months ago.

Kashyap along with other workers was given training in handling explosives as his routine work involved shifting chemicals used to make the explosives from one place to another.

On Monday morning, Kashyap was shifting MHN (Mannitol Hexanitrate), a major component used in making detonators.

He shifted one box of MHN from the room it was stored in, to an anti-static rubber box. When he went inside the storage room to get another box, the explosion took place.

“As there were huge quantities of the chemical stored in the room, the explosion was high and the construction collapsed. The body of Kashyap was blown to pieces. Only his head and a little portion of the chest was found at a distance,” said Bommalaramaram sub-inspector L. Madhu Babu.

The SI said, “It is suspected that the mishandling of the chemical could have resulted in the explosion. The worker, who was alone in the room, was killed on the spot. The entire room collapsed and became debris.”

Based on a complaint by Ganesh Kashyap, a co-worker of the deceased man, a case has been registered under Section 304A of the IPC, and the family members of Kashyap, who live in Chhattisgarh have been informed about the incident, said the SI.
