Burglars strike at 5 Chennai houses in a day
Chennai: In daring robberies committed in five houses in the same locality on Sunday, thieves robbed at least 102 sovereigns of gold ornaments. Police suspect that the five burglaries were committed by the same team.
The first incident took place at the residence of hotel manager Bishwas ( 40), who lives on Perumbakkam, Pallikaranaiu.
Sources said Biswas, originally from Delhi manages a famous hotel in Guindy, and had left to work on Sunday morning.
When he returned home at around 9: 30 pm, he found the grill in the front portion of the house cut and the wooden door broken.
He rushed inside the house and found the bureau inside the house broken and ransacked. Around 80 sovereigns of gold went missing. He alerted police. The Pallikaranai police registered a case.
In the second case, Srinivasan (40), of Perumbakkam, an employee of a private firm had gone to a marriage on Saturday evening.
When he returned in the early hours of Monday, he found gold jewellery missing, said an investigation officer. He lodged a complaint at the police station that someone had robbed at least 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery.
Similarly, Thangaraj (30) of Kalaignar Nagar, Vellikal in Pallikaranai returned home on Monday morning after work to find the door of his house open. Four sovereigns of gold were missing.
According to the police, the burglars also broke into two other houses in the locality, but nothing went missing from these two houses. A total of 102 sovereigns of gold was stolen from three houses in Pallikaranai.
Pallikaranai police registered cases and launched a search for the miscreants with the help of CCTV footage.
